Introduction

David Stuart Davies is recognised as one of the UK's leading experts on Sherlock Holmes. He has written four Holmes novels, several plays, including the award winning Sherlock Holmes - The Last Act,(which is still touring this country and venues overseas) as well as numerous articles and several non-fiction Sherlock books. His new Holmes-related volume Starring Sherlock Holmes, published in June 2001, is the definitive guide to the film and television portrayals of the Baker Street sleuth. David is Editor of Sherlock Holmes - The Detective Magazine. and is a former President of the Sherlock Holmes Society. He is also a director of the Crime Writers Association and the creator of two of his own detectives, Luther Darke, a Victorian puzzle-solver and Johnny One-Eye, a private eye operating in war-time London
