Tendo Achillis, a strong sinew running along the hee to the calf of the leg. So called because it was the only vulnerable part of Achillês. The tale is that Thetis held him by the heel when she dipped him in the Styx, in consequence of which the water did not wet the childs heel. The story is post-Homeric. |
