Dimissory A letter dimissory is a letter from the bishop of one diocese to some other bishop, giving leave for the bearer to be ordained by him. (Latin, di-matto, to send away.)

Dimity A cloth said to be so called from Damietta, in Egypt, but really from the Greek di-mitos (double- thread). (See Samite.)
