One of the very minute, disk-shaped bodies found in blood with the ordinary red corpuscles and white corpuscles; a third kind of blood corpuscle, supposed by some to be an early stage in the development of the red corpuscles; — called also blood plaque, and blood plate.

(Hæm`a*tog"e*nous) a. (Physiol.) Originating in the blood.

Hæmatoin
(Hæ*mat"o*in) n. [Hæmato- + -in.] (Physiol. Chem.) A substance formed from the hematin of blood, by removal of the iron through the action of concentrated sulphuric acid. Two like bodies, called respectively hæmatoporphyrin and hæmatolin, are formed in a similar manner.

Hæmatolin
(Hæ*mat"o*lin) n. See Hæmatoin.

Hæmatology
(Hæm`a*tol"o*gy) n. The science which treats of the blood. Same as Hematology.

Hæmatometer
(Hæm`a*tom"e*ter) n. [Hæmato- + -meter.] (Physiol.) (a) Same as Hemadynamometer. (b) An instrument for determining the number of blood corpuscles in a given quantity of blood.

Hæmatophilina
(||Hæm`a*to*phi*li"na) (- to*fi*li"na), n. pl. [NL., fr. Gr. a"i^ma, a"i`matos, blood +filei^n to love.] (Zoöl.) A division of Cheiroptera, including the bloodsucking bats. See Vampire.

Hæmatoplast
(Hæm"a*to*plast`) n. [Hæmato- + Gr. pla`ssein to mold.] (Anat.) Same as Hæmatoblast.

Hæmatoplastic
(Hæm`a*to*plas"tic) a. [Hæmato- + -plastic.] (Physiol.) Blood formative; — applied to a substance in early fetal life, which breaks up gradually into blood vessels.

Hæmatoporphyrin
(Hæm`a*to*por"phy*rin) (- pôr"fi*rin), n. [Hæmato- + Gr. porfy`ra purple.] (Physiol. Chem.) See Hæmatoin.
