is the most celebrated place in the world for the cultivation of opium. Besides
what is carried into the inland parts, there are annually 3 or 4000 chests exported, each weighing 300
lbs.
An excessive fondness for opium prevails in all the countries to the east of India. The Chinese emperors
have suppressed it in their dominions, by condemning to the flames every vessel that imports this species
